Abstract

The increase in can waste resulting from high consumption of packaged products creates storage space issues, while manual processing remains physically demanding and risky for workers. This study aims to develop a semi-automatic can crusher using Arduino Uno and a pneumatic system. The research methodology includes mechanical design, control system design, integration of pneumatic cylinder actuators, and testing under various pressure levels. Results show that a pressure of 2 bar causes no significant deformation, whereas 4 bar reduces the can height by 10% (from 12 cm to 10.8 cm). Optimal pressure is achieved at 8 bar (116.03 psi) for effective, continuous crushing without excessive impact. This tool offers an efficient solution for waste management. Future developments suggest using capacitive proximity sensors and a conveyor system.
