Abstract

This study aims to analyze the projected electricity energy mix of Bandung City in 2035 based on the balance between energy demand and renewable energy potential. This research applies a quantitative descriptive approach using energy balance analysis, energy gap analysis, and spatial classification of renewable energy potential at the district level. Energy demand and renewable energy potential data were projected to 2035 to ensure a consistent time horizon. Renewable energy potential was assessed based on solar power, biogas, biomass, and waste-to-energy sources using a technical realistic potential approach. The results show that Bandung City’s energy demand in 2035 is projected at 80,942.84 MWh/year, while renewable energy potential reaches 142,580.25 MWh/year. The potential-to-demand ratio of 1.76 indicates a moderate energy surplus. The renewable energy structure is dominated by solar power at 73.3%, followed by biogas at 12.9%, waste-to-energy at 7.0%, and biomass at 6.7%. Bojongloa Kaler, Babakan Ciparay, Kiaracondong, and Batununggal are identified as districts with the highest energy surplus. These findings indicate that renewable energy development in Bandung City has the potential to support energy security and reduce dependence on fossil-based electricity. However, its implementation requires grid integration, energy source diversification, and strengthened electricity infrastructure.
